Ethical eating
The Quarry Shop and Café aims to always use and sell local, seasonal, organic and Fair Trade produce. In the Café the food is freshly cooked on site each day so that it loses very few of its nutrients in the process and has no excessive salt or other additives. Our organic vegetable supplier is able to advise on what is currently in season and what is from local producers.
The Shop has suppliers of local, free range, organic eggs; local honey; Welsh organic milk and cheese; and local, small-scale baked bread. There are also home-baked organic wholemeal or ciabatta rolls available throughout the year.
Fair Trade
2004 marked the 25th anniversary of the movement to sell fair traded goods and the Quarry Shop and Café sells fair traded tea, coffee and chocolate. It was one of the first outlets to sell fair traded produce, helping to make it competitive by adding only the minimal markup.
Food Policy
We do not knowingly use GM food products and wherever possible our drinks are fair trade. We use organic and locally sourced produce as part of our buying strategy.
All the food on our menu (with a couple of minor exceptions) is freshly made and cooked in the kitchen at the Quarry Café.
There are always vegan dishes as part of our daily menu and we try to cater for other dietary requirements or requests if at all possible.
