History
The Quarry Shop and Café was set up by the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) on St. David's Day, 1st March 1979, as part of CAT's holistic outlook on a sustainable way of living, both for the individual and the planet.
Mission
The main aim of the Quarry Shop and Café when it started was to promote wholefoods, natural remedies and vegetarian cookery - particularly to the local community, as well as to incoming tourists. It has been very successful in this mission and has proved to be hugely popular with locals and visitors alike. So much so that in 1997 the Shop and Café out-grew one building and the Shop moved to new premises a few doors away, although the two remain integrally linked.
Dedicated to nutrition
Increasingly over the years people have become aware of the importance of healthy eating and how this impacts on future generations. However, even if awareness of the importance of eating well has grown, the availability of wholefoods is often still a problem. For the past 25 years, the Quarry Shop and Café have promoted good food on a very personal level, with an approachable style of service both within the business and in its outreach work, with a willingness and desire to serve the community.
