Community outreach programmes
Schools
Perhaps the most important work that the Quarry Shop and Café does in the community involves the local primary school. Here the Shop and Café has developed very strong links with the teachers and pupils of the school, who will be the next generation affected by the consequences of diet. The Shop and Café provides regular classes on wholefood cookery, giving the children a chance to explore the actual ingredients of a meal and taste the results. These classes are always very popular and receive coverage in the local press.
The Quarry Shop and Cafe also helped to promote the school's Healthy Lunchbox Campaign and judged the entries in their poster competition for this.
Social groups
Over the past 25 years the Quarry Shop and Café have given cookery demonstrations and advice on nutrition to a number of WI / Merched y Wawr groups in the local area, including in Machynlleth, Pantperthog, Borth, Llwyngwril, Aberdyfi and Llanidloes. Members of these groups have been actively encouraged to come back to the Shop and Café for further information.
Local GP
The local doctor values the range of natural and complementary remedies provided by the Quarry Shop; and many patients come to the shop to seek advice on treatments and purchase products that have been recommended.
